SVMTG: ED Workshops
Frequently Asked Questions

What is SVMTG:ED?

SVMTG:ED is a group of massage therapy educators who work under the umbrella of the Silicon Valley Massage Therapy Group. We formed because it was difficult for most of us to find quality in-person hands-on workshop experiences that allowed us to hone our skills and learn new ones. The workshops also allow us to meet other MTs and network. We create new courses based on feedback from working massage therapists and our teaching staff.

Who can attend the workshops?

You must be a certified massage therapist or graduate of an accredited massage therapy program to attend any of our sessions. Be prepare to show your license, certification, or other proof when you check in for the workshop. If you are not a therapist but are interested in massage therapy as a career you can get excellent info here.

What is the workshop format?

We are sensitive to different learning styles.  Typically, workshops are a combination of presentation, demonstration, and group and indiividual practice. In bodywork classes, our goal is to give you plenty of time to practice your new skills and ask questions.

Is there a test?

No. The instructor and TA will use observation to help evaluate and coach your technique and give you immediate feedback. There is also a workshop evaluation at the end of the session that also asks you to share your thoughts on the workshop itself. You'll need to turn that in to get your certificate at the end of the class.

Where are the workshops held?

Check each workshop description. Many of our workshops are held at SVMTG, San Jose and others at National Holistic Institute's San Jose Campus, and some are also held at area hotels and other conveninent meeting places. Check course descriptions for locations.

What should I bring to the workshop?

Check individual course descriptions. Some of the bodywork workshops require you to bring a massage table, linens and medium, check individual course descriptions for more information. In general, you will be paired up for bodywork, so if you coordinate in advance, two therapists can share one table. Don't rely on the chance that there will be extra tables, though, or you might be left without the ability to do the practice.

What is included in the registration fee?

Registration includes the workshop, a morning or afternoon refreshment break, workshop materials, and a nifty certificate of completion.

Do you offer any group discounts?

Group discounts for five or more attendees from the same organization are available upon request from SVMTG. Group reservations will be taken until 10 days before the session begins. To make a reservation for a group, call us at (408) 260-2256 during regular business hours.

What is the workshop dress code?

The dress code is casual. Classroom room temperatures can be unpredictable, so we recommend bringing a sweater or dressing in layers.

What's the overall schedule for the workshop? Are there breaks?

Most workshops are 2 or 4 hours long. If you sign up for a morning workshop, check-in begins at 8 and the workshop begins at 9am. For the afternoon workshop, checking begins at 1 and the workshop begins at 2pm. Some 2 hour classes, like our MBLEx test reviews have a short break mid-class. Make sure you're early to allow for check-in and room setup.
There will be several 10-15 minute breaks during the session for your comfort, and you're free to exit the session to use the restroom as necessary.

How do you pay for a workshop?

You have a couple of choices for payment: 1) Pay with a credit card or PayPal account (see the REGISTER AND PAY section on the sidebar of each workshop page); or 2) Call us during regular business hours and we'll charge a credit card by phone or just bring your cash or credit/debit card to the class with you and pay on the spot. If you choose to pay in advance, each workshop page has a PayPal link, just click it and the rest is easy.

What is the refund policy?

Your registration is non-refundable, so there are no refunds or exchanges once tickets once purchased. If you sign up, please plan to show up.

Are there continuing education credits available for the workshops?

Yes! SVMTG is an officially Approved Provider for the NCBTMB. Many of our courses offer continuing education units (CEUs). Check the individual course descriptions for more information. Note that some courses are pending final review by NCBTMB.
