Five Ways to Keep Your Body Young

The Fountain of Youth is really all about habits.  Good habits.  Here are five good habits for you to acquire that will help keep your body young, fit and happy.

Eat more fat. The healthy kind, that is. Omega-3 fatty acids (found in salmon, walnuts, and seeds) help stabilize your mood, maintain bone strength, and help prevent visible signs of aging by reducing inflammation in the body. Eat two grams of omega-3 fatty acids a day or consider taking krill or fish oil supplements.

Drink more (water). You’ve heard this many times for a reason.  It works. There are many benefits to drinking more water. Water helps energize muscles, keeps skin hydrated, helps your kidneys, keeps your you regular and more. Have a glass of water with every meal, and carry that water bottle everywhere with you. Eat more fruits and veggies, too, their high water content will add to you hydration.

Move it. Not only does regular exercise help you lose weight, tone muscles, build healthier bones, and boost mood, it can also help you think clearly. Create a new habit to exercise more with three 20 minute workouts a week.

Mental aerobics. Brain exercises can prevent cognitive decline and help you retain memory and the sharp wit of youth. Strengthen your mind every day by doing crossword puzzles, Sudoku, or try online brain training sites like Lumosity.

Stress Less. Stress causes physical changes in the body that can accelerate aging. Surges of the hormones adrenaline and cortisol cause blood pressure to rise and the heart to beat faster. These days, when our stressors seem unrelenting (a steady stream of job pressures, crazy relationships, traffic jams, money problems), chronic doses of adrenaline and cortisol take a heavy toll on our physical and emotional health. Massage can really help this one.  The time you spend in our clinic will help you focus, relieve stress, and re-center for a younger-feeling you.

So the bottom line?  Keep calm and build a set of habits to help keep you young.  Regular massage is a great beginning.  Give us a call and we’ll get you on the road to a better, “younger feeling” life.
